I’m ready this time.
I tried doing NaNoWriMo last year but only got a little bit in and crumbled under the weight. It was like entering a marathon without training.
This year, I’m ready. I’ve been writing every day since June 1. I started with only 250 words per day. Now I’m up to 450. I usually write well over my goal, but not always. I never write less. I’ve written almost 90,000 words since I started.
I have two separate goals for November. The first is to write at least 500 words per day. That’s easy at this point. The second is to write 50,000 words by the end of the month. That’s tough. Over 1600 words per day if you aren’t too quick on the math.
So, basically, if I have a day (like the past two days) with no sleep and too much work, I won’t feel bad falling back to my daily goal of 500 words. I can make up for it on my off days.
I have a story planned out. I’m less than happy with the planning that I’ve done, though. It feels hollow. I spent all of October plotting the story, getting to know my characters, and writing their backstories. I’m less than impressed, though. We’ll see how it all goes. I won’t feel bad if the story turns in a whole different direction.
Feel free to follow me. That badge at the top right side of the page will update automatically to show my progress toward my goal. If you want to support the folks at NaNoWriMo and make me look good in the process, you can make a donation here. Every little bit helps. I donated in memory of my Grandmother, who was a writer too.
Thanks for reading!
